This year was colder, there was snow left on the ground from a snowfall the previous week, and instead of staying in a heated tent in Curry Village, my friend and I pitched tents and were snow camping. Instead of taking a feast, I took a box of soup for the Thanksgiving meal. I gave myself a couple of specific goals and I feel like I got better photographs for the effort. Instead of taking broad landscapes with landmarks or beautiful rock formations, in whatever light was available when I got there, I instead purposefully avoided the harsh mountain light and took photos in shadow. That was my first project for all three days. On the Friday after Thanksgiving I wanted to revisit my previous year’s hike to Mirror Lake and see how the landscape has changed. I still don’t think of myself as a landscape photographer, even though I thoroughly enjoy going out and looking for compositions.
