I’ve been to Paris for extended stays a few times in my life. My first waking day in the city is always spent with a visit to this cathedral. I don’t know why. I’ve always felt some sort of connection to this place.
Saint-Denis was the first Gothic structure built in Europe, is an architectural landmark, and houses the remains of most of the kings and queens of France. The cathedral was begun by Abbot Suger and built over the remains of the patron saint of France, Saint-Denis.
