Nothing to focus on here – realized after posting the image that the food is not in focus but the Indian Corn is … oh well …
This year the newly annual trip to Yosemite for Thanksgiving was canceled as I took a house/pet sit over in Mill Valley for the holiday. The sit is only for a few days, but I still bought way too much food for a single woman to eat in those days. My Thanksgiving meal looked pretty much like the bowl of leftovers above, all the yummy vegetarian sides – roasted carrots and yams, mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, corn and broccoli ,,. This property has chickens and ducks, and instead of eating them for Thanksgiving, I fed them the cooking scraps and a few leftovers.
But American Thanksgiving isn’t all about the food. Although you wouldn’t know that by the way the holiday is advertised. It can be about being grateful for a great harvest, good friendships, getting along with family for a day, the quiet moments, the noisy boisterous moments, our pets, the chill in the air, the angle of the light, and color of the trees.
While 2023 has been a bumper year, in both good and not so good ways, I hope everyone has had the opportunity to be grateful for something this year.
